Every afternoon when I wake up, the first thing I do is read my email from bed, because I’m awesome like that. Actually, it’s a good way to get myself going before I climb out of bed. Otherwise, I risk zombification. The other day, doing exactly that, I came across an email from PayPal titled “Reciept for your payment to Match.com.” Say WHAT? Then I opened it, saw the amount, and repeated the previous line once more, only with more gusto. $107.94 for another 6 months on a site that I hardly used during the last 6 months I paid for.
I have subscription lines in my budget in YNAB, but I completely forgot about this one. I hadn’t considered the possibility that it was set to auto-renew, or that such an event was anytime soon. I WAS doing very well with my budget this month due to my recent lifestyle/spending habit changes, but this little doozy blew it out of the water. Lesson learned: If you sign up for a subscription that you don’t plan on renewing, make sure you turn off the auto-renewal right after you sign up.

Is it too late to get your money back? Maybe sweet talking the folks over at Match.com by saying that you forgot to cancel and that you are already Matched? If it is too late, then I guess live it up! Go out on some dates. And of course, don’t forget to tell us all the juicy details
hey jake, don’t take this lying down! i bet if you call or email match.com you can get a refund. i’m just curious, have you had any success with that ? did you meet anyone? was it a good thing? i got rejected by an online dating service once. they said i was too “unique”, they had nobody for me! imagine that.
strangely enough, i felt proud.
My guess is that they get so many calls of that nature, that they probably don’t take kindly to refund requests. I’m sure they’ve got a script down and everything. I can’t really do the whole “I’m already matched” shtick, as I figured I’d get my money’s worth and shot out some emails. Actually, just checked their TOS, and a refund ain’t happening.
And no, I haven’t had any success with it. Which isn’t too surprising.
