Truck Update
Timelines are fun. Here’s a nifty one:
- 1037: Conshohocken Getty calls me to ask what’s wrong with the truck. I tell them – clutch went to the floor.
- 1108: Getty calls back and tells me I need a whole new transmission. I’m so speechless at the absurdity of such a statement that he thinks I hung up, til he finally asks if I want him to get a price. Sure, whatever.
- 1137: I call my local transmission guy, Scott (who I actually trust as he did transmission work for me a couple years ago), and ask for his advice. He agrees with me that it’s probably just a hydraulic problem, that I probably don’t need a whole new transmission, and suggests I have it towed back to his shop. I agree with him that it’d certainly be cheaper for such a long tow (75 miles) than needlessly getting a whole new transmission.
- 1200: Call my mom for a third opinion, she agrees.
- 1214: Call Getty, he demands $80 for “looking at it.” Whatever, I say (I expected a charge, but not nearly that much). I offer my debit card info, he says “no, no, cash only.”
- 1217: Call Leffler’s Towing, they already know what’s up because Scott already called them.
Ended up meeting the Leffler’s driver down at the gas station to give him $80 to give to the Getty. Scott took take of the towing bill (which will probably be around $300) and will put it on my bill. Freakin ridiculous, that I’ve already spend almost $500 on it without even a hint of fixing it.
Hopefully I’ll be able to work out some sort of payment plan with Scott’s (rather than dear mother covering it… once again). Then after that’s paid off, I want to fully build my emergency fund before anything else.
