What I'm Doing...

Adventures in Carnival Land

Well, there you have it. I have now officially hosted a carnival. Random bumbling thoughts on it:

  1. There were a ton of irrelevant submissions. Some yahoo had the gall to submit over a dozen articles that didn’t even have anything remotely to do with personal finance, or money. But even aside from that, for being a carnival dedicated to debt reduction, there wasn’t much debt reducing going around.
  2. Out of a good 50 submissions, at least (not including the aforementioned yahoo), I ended up including a grand total of 14. Subtract that from 50 or so and that’s how many submissions I didn’t feel were relevant or on topic.
  3. I very well may be far too picky.
  4. I was half drunk most of the time.
  5. As previously stated, this is definitely not going to be a regular thing for me. I got home from work at 0230, it’s now 0500, and that entire time was spent working on the carnival (and drinking). Plus a couple hours the other night working on it as well.
  6. Yes, that picture at the top is mine (as are all the pictures that appear at the top of my posts, if you haven’t figured that out yet – otherwise I’d give credit where credit is due). I took it last weekend, and I’m very proud of it, as I feel it’s the best picture I’ve ever taken in terms of composition and lighting. Bonus points to whoever can identify it – not a quiz, I just want to know myself.
  7. A few authors submitted more than one article, spaced out – perhaps hoping I wouldn’t notice?
  8. A few articles were from a long, long time ago. I’m talking a year ago. I rejected them solely on that basis.
  9. A few articles had trackbacks from other carnivals listed on them. Duh? Rejected.
  10. Okay, now I’m sure I’m being too picky, stingy, what have you. I can’t help it, I’m cranky about other things going on.

I’m sure #1 is something every carnival host has to deal with, every single time. I just didn’t realize it was going to be at that magnitude. Same with 7, 8, and 9, sans the magnitude bit. I’m also sure there are spelling and capitalization errors in there. Chrome doesn’t seem to want to spell check my posts for me, and I never care for capitalizing every word, as is the case with titles.

All in all, though, an interesting experience, even if it was exhausting.

Hey whats more fun than a drunk carnival? :) Humor plus info. You did a great job! Maybe you’ll reconsider doing it again…..
