Oops – Refiling State Taxes

May 31, 2009

Last year, the Commonwealth passed a bill in to law called the Volunteer Responder Retention and Recruitment Tax Act, which provided for up to a $100 tax credit for volunteer fire, EMS, and rescue personnel, based on activity. We all got one of these forms down at the station early this year, and mine indicated that I qualified for the full credit of $100.

Well, in my procratinating rush to do my taxes at the last minute, I completely forgot about it, until today when for some reason it popped in to my head while running two consecutive motorcycle crashes.

Thankfully, as with the IRS, PA allows for amended returns (not sure if any state out there doesn’t, but whatever). So now I just need to actually find the form, file an amended return, and wait for the cash. It’s probably somewhere in my truck, which is the worst place it could be. If not, I’m sure I could get another one…
