Starting A Web Hosting Company
They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, while expecting different results. I’ve been running a free web host, GetAPortal, for a few years now. I overpaid for it, it has underperformed drastically, and has become nothing but a cesspool for spammers. So now, I’m starting a new venture with a paid web hosting company. In reality, I’ll be a reseller for the host this very blog is parked at, but it’s pretty well the same thing – only a lot cheaper. My hosting will still be backed by a highly reliable, secure, state of the art data center, while I won’t have to worry about any of that. I’ve been working the numbers, and have found that I’ll be able to offer hosting terribly cheaper than most web hosts out there, but with the same quality and dependability.
I’ve already got the domain registered, I just have to work some things out with them, and we’ll be in business. The best part is, my costs will be pretty low, so even if it doesn’t work out, I won’t be hurt by it too terribly much (well, except for my pride, anyway). I’m thinking my target base will be fellow personal finance bloggers. We’re all trying to save money anywhere we can, so why not your hosting bill? I betcha I’ll cut it in half.
