Payment Plan Worked Out With Capital One

I’ve been saving messages left on my phone from debt collectors recently, with the intention of finally sitting down one of these days and calling them all back to work things out. I didn’t even get that far today, though, as I finally answered the phone to one of them, for the very first time. And it just so happens it was Ms. Jamal from Global, Capital One’s collection agency. She was the first on my list to call back. I have more messages from her than any other creditor, and they’re the only ones that haven’t been robo-messages.

Now, I know you should get too personal and friendly with your debt collectors, because they tend to take what they know about you and use it against you later on. I, however, don’t anticipate this being a problem, as I’m not trying to skip out on my debts or anything, and I do have at least a small ability to pay. We talked about all of my other debts, and I told her how I was behind on everything and what my work situation is like. I like being friendly with people, even if they’re only after my money. She even told me about why she took that job (to pay for her last semester of college), and that she’s only a year older than me (at which point in time I may or may not have tried to get a date with her – until she told me she’s in Canada, anyway). At any rate, this exchange worked out well for both parties. I got to have a nice friendly conversation while actually doing something about my debt, and she got to learn a little about me to possibly use later on, and got me to start making payments.

End result? $100/mo payment plan for 6 months to kick things off. Doesn’t even cover the interest building on the balance ($106/mo), but it’s certainly better than nothing, and will for the most part keep the interest at the same level.

Dude, seriously? lol

If a long distance love connection could get you a little debt forgiveness or a lower interest rate, that would be cool.
