Deal with the Landlord

October 6, 2008

The landlord was just over, and we were able to come up with an agreement that is apparently reasonable to both of us. I just paid him $350 tonight, he expects $250 on Friday, and $200 every week thereafter. Bear in mind, this is an agreement that involves me continuing to reside here. I made it very clear to him that I don’t like living in this town, and as soon after that that I’ve saved up enough to get a new place, I’ll do so, thereby getting out of his hair once and for all. This Friday is going to be tough, though. I missed a day last week due to illness, and as such (according to my spreadsheet) my paycheck will only be $255. At this very moment, I have $43 in my wallet. That should be enough (hopefully) to make it through this week, but two weeks probably isn’t possible. As such, I’ll have to bum a 50 off my mom at the end of the week (with the promise to pay her back next week, of course).

Here’s the breakdown, though. A regular week, coming to and leaving from work on time every day, my paychecks should be $330 or so. I can probably live off of $30 or so a week counting only food and gas, so that leaves me with an extra $100. To do what with, though? I could pay the rent off faster, I could save it up, I could put it towards other bills… the possibilites of where to put your money when you’re buried in debt and 3 months behind on everything seem endless. The first thing I want to do, of course, is build a cushion. There are other irregular expenses such as cat litter and cat food. Actualy, those are pretty much it, but whatever. I need to get my truck registered, fixed, and inspected. That’s $60 reg, $35 or so inspection, and “worst case” a couple hundred dollars to fix.

Here’s the rent timeline:
