Checking Balanced… So What?

June 14, 2008

I bothered to update my ClearCheckBook with the last almost month of transactions in my checking account. $882 is what I came up with. The first thing I want to do is catch up on the scooter payments I owe her. There are two reasons for that: One, I told her from the start I’d make it a priority, since it’s on her credit, etc. And two, last night she emailed me a sort of ultimatum basically flipping out, telling me she’s taking the scooter, taking me off the family cell plan (WTF?), taking me off the scooter insurance (I don’t think I was ever on it), going to make me move in with her… and a bunch of other shit. I think she really wants me to disown her, and let me tell you, it’s working. I don’t even know what I owe her for the scooter payments – either 220 or 240. I’ll transfer the latter, as I really don’t care to call her and find out… because I really don’t want to talk to her right now. I’m sure if it’s more than I owe her, she’ll probably let me know somehow.

She also mentions my “continued disinterest in getting a better job,” which is total bullshit. I’ve been working my ass off day and night, every day. I don’t have time to go fill out applications, I’m at work. I can’t take a day off of work to do it, because I can’t afford to. My manager is in the same conundrum. I also want to take care of the credit union payment, as I believe she’s a cosigner on that, and don’t want her to get any letters or phone calls about it. But I’m wondering if I should even care.

I want to make sure I have at least 300 or so left at the end of the month so that I’m sure I can take care of the rent. Even though my spreadsheet says my check at the end of the month should be 743… I’ve learned not to trust it. But even so, with how it’s been acting, I’d say I’ll be making at least $600, so maybe 300 is too much to hang on to. I’ve been trying to write down all my times so I can keep track and figure it out a week ahead of time, so we’ll see how that works out (if I keep up with it).

Monday is my day off, I have a bunch of tabs sitting open in my browser with jobs I want to look in to, and I want to take the cable box down to Comcast and have them trash this bill (as it’s for advance service, like they always are, and beginning today… or something like that, but regardless, beginning long enough after I called to cancel). Maybe even do some laundry while I’m at it. Maybe. Oh, and, you know, call Sallie Mae and Capital One to tell them I have no money. I’ll try to make a final decision then as to what bills to pay with what I have.

P.S. Pop-tarts are a hell of a lot cheaper than cafeteria food. Not nearly as filling, though.

I mentioned a link to Dave Ramsey on your post after this one, I think.

But I also want to add this information. Dave Ramsey is totally against debt in all forms, and debt consolidation because it makes the situation worse if you don’t learn how to handle debt, but the fact that your scooter is in your mom’s name is similar to my situation.

My dad was a cosigner on my car loan. I went to Citifinancial and consolidated my car loan and two credit card loans into one payment, using the car as collateral.

The interest rate is high (18%), but I considered it worth it because this took my dad’s name off the car as being responsible for payments if I didn’t make one. That was a relief to me. The dealership still sends tune up notices and stuff in his name, but I can live with that.

Also, you may want to look into a prepaid cell phone for yourself, so that doesn’t keep hanging over your head.
