What I'm Doing...

Netflix Website Psychology

[00:13:49] <seacow> Suppose you set up a site where login is required…
[00:14:04] <seacow> Would it make more sense for the main page to to have new user signup or for registered user login?
[00:16:15] <S4L> both prominent for the start… then change focus to registered users when it’s more established/good size user base, considering your goals
[00:17:35] <seacow> Yeah.
[00:17:41] <seacow> http://www.netflix.com
[00:17:46] <seacow> What do you see?
[00:20:16] <S4L> I see greed
[00:20:32] <seacow> But, there’s nothing for registered users on the main page
[00:21:23] <S4L> other than a link top right to sign in, no
[00:21:37] <seacow> Yeah.  If you’re a registered user, there’s an extra click
[00:21:53] <seacow> Wouldn’t it make more sense to make it easier for people that are paying to use the site?
[00:22:06] <S4L> yeah… it should be a login box right up there, if anything, like the forum does when you visit not logged in
[00:22:20] <seacow> Yeah
[00:22:40] <seacow> Ok.  I can understand wanting to make it easy to get new users, but if you’re paying, you want to have the perks
[00:22:52] <seacow> Right?
[00:23:06] <S4L> I guess they expect you to change your bookmark to the login page… of course, that would be expecting too much of too many users
[00:23:07] <S4L> right
[00:23:14] <S4L> and they’re very well established
[00:24:20] <seacow> Yes
